Liam (or LiamRBS as most people know him online) is a racing content creator, based around the Codemasters games, F1, Dirt etc. He livestreams 5 days a week, where his aim is to “try to bring as much happiness to my viewers and get them involved as much as I can.” I had the opportunity to ask him a couple questions, and the result of this interview is the start of a brand new content creator series. Check out all of Liam’s streams, especially his charity stream in aid of Mind this Saturday on the 6th of Feb, and socials will be linked at the end as well!

Castor: So what prompted you to start streaming, and how did you find a community of people you liked?

Liam: When I used to play Competitive Call Of Duty, I always dreamt of streaming but coming from a poor background, I didn’t have the equipment nor facilities to do it, so I could never achieve what I wanted to do. Back then the COD Scene was very circle based, so you had to know the right people to get further. 4 to 5 years later, I find myself in the F1 community in a better place with life and it’s incredible, everyone supports everyone and the community we have built so far is more than I could have ever imagined.

C: You mentioned that you started off playing Fortnite on Twitch, but now you stream F1 2020. When and why did you make the change?

L: I made the change because of the way Twitch is, sometimes, you have to make these changes to advance your brand, your channel etc. Fortnite back then was very over-saturated and you’d get lost within the crowd, as there were so many people streaming it, in the hype! Streaming F1, you don’t get so many streamers so you can be easily discovered and people can find you on the first page almost instantly, of course, I stream F1 because I love the sport and I can share it all with my viewers.

C: What does a streaming day look like for you and what is your favourite part of streaming?

L: So, I stream 5 days a week. A day in the life of a streamer, or me, I get up in the morning, head to work, get home for about midday, get all sorted out, sit down at my rig, before you know it, it’s time to stream, 12:30 PM, we go live and the fun begins...Pretty boring preparation if you ask me! My favourite part about streaming is having conversations with the viewers and getting to know new people, each stream there would be someone new to say hi to, to hang out with while I play my favourite game. Without those in the chat, streaming would be no fun.

They believed in me and here we are, building my dream set-up, in a position I never thought I’d be in!

C: Of course, you were recently invited to the Codemasters Racing Ahead Program, and you also have a partnership with Next Level Racing, a simulator brand. How do you envision those helping you in the long run, and what are your next goals to hit?

L: Working alongside Codemasters is gonna be an interesting one, I can’t go into too much detail but I’m excited for the future ahead, hopefully involved in some interesting projects with them in the near distant future, F1 2021, that’s all I’ll say! With Next Level Racing, I thought, why not give them an email, if you don’t shoot your shot, then you won’t ever know. They believed in me and here we are, building my dream set-up, in a position I never thought I’d be in! The next goal is Partner on Twitch, that’s the aim, the dream.

C: Where do you see yourself in 5 years and how long do you think you’ll keep streaming for?

L: Hopefully in an even better position than I am now, Full-Time streamer possibly? I’ll stream until I no longer enjoy it, if ever. As long as you all enjoy what I do, then I’m happy!

Gotta give a big shoutout to Jenny, the missus... she’d always push me to do it and become everything I’ve wanted.

C: One thing that is different about you now versus the Liam who first started streaming?

L: I wasn’t confident in the slightest, now, I can sit there and talk to the camera for hours. I struggle to look directly into the camera sometimes but that’s just the way I’ve always been. Gotta give a big shoutout to Jenny, the missus, without her, I’d still be a loser with no confidence, she’d always push me to do it and become everything I’ve wanted.

C: You are also hosting a 12-hour charity stream, can you tell us more about it and what inspired you to choose Mind?

L: I always do a Yearly Charity Stream and this year, I’m doing it on behalf of Mind. As we all know, Covid-19 has taken over our lives over the past year and a lot of people have struggled mentally, this is just my way of giving back and hopefully helping people over the long run. I don’t normally talk too much about stuff like this because I try to keep positive and put on a brave face for the people who rely on me, but I’ve struggled over the past few years and it’s not a nice thing to go through, it’s tough. So with this stream and raising money for a good cause, if I can just help one person believe that they’re worth it and people do love them, then I can come away happy and know I’ve done a good thing.

C: And just for fun, favourite F1 team and driver? L: McLaren, of course. Now, this question becomes a difficult one, Lando is one of my favourites, but Tsunoda has come through the ranks so quickly and you cannot avoid the fact this man is talented and I’ve enjoyed watching him over the years and I’m happy to see him in F1 this season coming. So I’d say Yuki, but Lando will always be up there also!

If I can just help one person believe that they’re worth it and people do love them, then I can come away happy and know I’ve done a good thing.
